Shakespeare in the Park
Submitted By Heather Mellon
Hayward Area Historical Society and Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, in collaboration with Chabot College, School of the Arts, present a free performance of Shakespeare in the Park on Saturday, August 7 at 1p.m. in Meek Park. Students will perform the classic favorite "A Midsummer Night's Dream," featuring pairs of lost lovers, a hilarious troupe of laborers rehearsing their own play for a royal performance, and magical fairies fighting among themselves and causing comic trouble for anyone who wanders into the woods.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and a picnic lunch. Admission is free. Following the performance, the Hayward Arts Council and the American Association of University Women will hold an English Tea inside Meek Mansion. The tea costs $15 and will benefit the scholarship funds of the two organizations. Along with the tea, attendees will be treated to music by a local woodwind quintet and readings from Shakespeare's Sonnets by Don Markos.
Parking is available at the park, but plan ahead as Hampton Road is undergoing major construction. For more information call (510) 581-0223 or visit www.haywardareahistory.org.
