Bill Mancebo's Player Spotlight
This week the player spotlight shines on multi-faceted athlete Tanner Granzella.
Baseball, basketball, football and soccer are all in his sports lineup. Even though he's hit three home runs this season with the Niles-Centerville Little League majors Yankees team, basketball is Tanner's favorite form of team field competition.
He's played many different positions in sports. As catcher and outfielder in baseball, soccer as a forward, defensive lineman on the gridiron and his favorite spot of point guard in basketball.
Granzella says he likes basketball the most simply because of the fast energetic pace of the game.
At age 11, Tanner knows that staying in shape is important and keeps it fun by playing catch with his dad and brothers everyday then chasing his dog when he can. This is all done after his studies are complete at Sunol Glen School.
"Sunol Glen is a great place to learn," says Tanner where recess and social studies are his favorites and in that order. His lifetime goal is nothing else than to be a basketball player, and if he has it his way, that probably will not change anytime soon.
Camping is something that Tanner looks forward to in his off time. During camp-outs he can enjoy his family, relax and hopefully it will be near a lake as he is a natural born swimmer.
At dinner time Granzella will often hop a ride to Chili's for his favorite boneless hot wings, then head back home to some chocolate chip cookies and TV time for catching a little more sports.
