MSJLL Senior all-stars eliminated from sectional play

Submitted By Ed Hugo

Mission San Jose Little League's Senior all-star team's 2010 postseason run ended as they dropped a 9-3 contest to Livermore in the Sectional Tournament at Max Baer Park in Livermore on Tuesday, July 20.

But Mission didn't go out without a fight. They simple ran out of gas. After losing a tight 10-9 game to a strong Union City American team on Sunday, July 18, MSJLL bounced back by defeating Redwood City, 10-5, to fight off elimination one day, before ultimately falling to Livermore, where the MJSLL team could only muster two hits in the last three innings.

Patrick Yang started on the mound for MSJLL and ran into bad luck in the first two innings as Livermore hit several ground balls that found the outfield grass rather than the MSJLL infielder's gloves. Finding themselves down 6-1 after the second inning, MSJLL was unable to mount a serious rally against the consistent Livermore pitching and their tight, errorless defense.

Kenny Jacoby relieved Yang in the third inning and pitched five impressive innings allowing no earned runs and giving his teammates a chance to put together a comeback. But the comeback was not to be as MSJLL left two runners on base in five of the game's seven innings. The MSJLL defense, which had committed only two errors in the first two sectional games, committed seven errors and was victimized by the soft infield at Max Baer Park. The defensive mishaps led to four unearned runs for Livermore.

Jacoby, Yang, Reid Marion and Logan Graves each had multi-hit games for MSJLL with Jacoby, Marion and Yang driving in the three MSJLL runs.

The MSJLL Senior all-stars end the 2010 season with an overall 5-3 record, a District 14 championship, many wonderful memories and a vision towards 2011.
