NHRA makes a display at Infineon Raceway

NHRA made its 23rd annual stop at Infineon Raceway for the FRAM-Autolite NHRA Nationals on Friday, July 16, through Sunday, July 18. Matt Hagan, Jack Beckman, Tim Wilkerson and Ron Capps solidified their positions in the Funny Car competition on Sunday, bringing the number of spots to five clinched in that class.
Funny Car driver Ron Capps also ended his yearlong winless streak Sunday with a victory in the 15th race of the tour. Other winners were Larry Dixon (Top Fuel), with Jeg Coughlin and Jason Line (Pro Stock) locking their positions in the Countdown to 1 - a six race playoff with 10 drivers in each pro class for their 23 race season.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle Matt Smith, Andrew Hines and Michael Phillips also solidified their spots.
In Top Fuel, Larry Dixon (3.879, 317.12) and the Al-Anabi team defeated arch rival Tony Schumacher (4.006, 300.73) in the U.S. Army dragster remaining perfect in final rounds this season. Dixon sits at the top of the list in the top fuel category with 1444 points.
Next stop for the series is Denver, Colo., for the Mile-High NHRA Nationals on Friday, July 23, through Sunday, July 25, running through the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minn., August 12 to 15; leading to the final, six-race Countdown to 1.
