It was two strikes and out for Niles-Centerville Little League in the Section 3 Little League Majors tournament at Gomes Elementary School in Fremont.

Niles, representing District 14, lost 11-1 to District 67 representative Tracy Little League on Saturday, July 17, before being eliminated by District 52's Hillsbrough Little League, 12-7, on Sunday, July 18.

In the opening game of the tournament on Saturday, Tracy's Major Division All Stars simply outperformed Niles. Niles-Centerville, plagued with errors throughout the four-inning game, was not able to keep up with Tracy's quickness.

Tracy put the first number up on the board at the top of the second inning with an RBI double to deep right. Niles was not able to retaliate and remained scoreless in the second inning. Tracy was not as forgiving in the third inning as they boosted their lead up to 3-0.

Niles had many chances, but was not able to capitalize as a couple batters got out at home. Brian Knight was able to convert, however, and stole home to get the score to 3-1.

At the top of the fourth, Tracy took the cake as they were on a run-scoring massacre. A triple by Jake Alvarado kicked it off and Tracy was up 5-1 in no time. After a deep hit by Noah Donoyer, Tracy went up 8-1. However, Tracy wasn't done. Matt Case hit an inside-the-park homer and boosted the lead to 10-1. Tracy shut it down with an outstanding 11-1 lead.

After the inning, with the 10-run rule in effect the game was called. Niles was able to put up a bit of a fight against Hillsbrough in the losers' bracket match the next day, plating seven runs. But with the pitching staff allowing another double-digit total, were eliminated from the tournament.

In other Section 3 Majors action, District 57's San Ramon Little League topped Hillsbrough on Saturday, 6-3, and followed it up with a 13-0 win over District 45's San Lorenzo National Little League on Sunday. San Lorenzo and Hillsbrough faced off on Monday in an elimination match-up, while San Ramon and Tracy squared off in a winners' bracket match. Both games results were unavailable at press. Log onto for the scores.
