Bill Mancebo's Player Spotlight
This week the player spotlight is on Santana Ramirez.
Baseball is everything for this young man. Santana began with t-ball and now at age 10 he's narrowed his base-line vision down to perfecting and protecting the entire infield.
For the last six years Ramirez has played nothing but infield positions. His natural acrobatic athleticism has landed him in the short stop position many times. It's his least favorite of all the diamond stops, but his consideration for the team always leads him off to do his best.
Currently playing for the Niles-Centerville Little League Minor A Phillies, Santana was recently asked to play for the IOU Huskies and traveled to Sacramento to fulfill that honor. His success there led him to his next dream of playing in an All Stars match. Whether it's this season or next he's always ready to travel for the sport.
As a student at Niles Elementary School, he favored PE at the top of his subject list and recalls Mr. Caporgno as the teacher who made a difference. He really enjoyed his lessons because Mr. Caporgno was really nice and let them all watch movies in the classroom.
The career path of Ramirez is pointing him to San Francisco where he intends to play ball for the Giants; hopefully on first or second base and can do it in time to share the field with his favorite player, Tim Lincecum.
Staying in shape and playtime go hand in hand for Santana as playing baseball for a free time activity heads up the list always using a skateboard or scooter to make his way to the field. Climbing trees and chasing his two dogs can wear him out so he'll slow it down a little by camping with family members and playing some video games, namely Halo 3 or Modern Warfare 2 when he can.
He likes it his way when it comes to dinner and Ramirez will take spaghetti but never without extra parmesan cheese. Being the purest that he is, vanilla ice cream topped with nuts and cookies on the side is the dessert that he desires.
