Free Medical Clinic in Milpitas needs volunteers
By Sarah Leavitt
The Medical Clinic at the India Community Center (ICC) in Milpitas, operating since 2007 and serving hundreds of patients weekly, has had no problem finding patients, it is the doctors that are in high demand. When it started over three years ago, the clinic offered a few services on a limited basis, but now offers full primary care service for adults at twice weekly clinic hours. Staffed by volunteer physicians from the community, the clinic offers acute care for minor medical issues and illnesses, as well as regular care for adults with chronic illness.
"More and more people in general are coming in because they don't have jobs, and we are seeing far more young people than before. We need doctors, and specialists. Right now we don't have any specialists, and we don't have enough doctors to staff all of the clinic hours," said Aparna Gulati, a doctor who has been working as a clinic volunteer for two years. For information on clinic appointments or volunteering, please contact the ICC Medical Clinic at medicalclinic@indiacc.org or call (408) 934-1130 ext.270. |
