Fremont starts Chinese Immersion Program
More applicants welcome
Submitted By Wei-Lin Tong
With one full kindergarten class so far, Fremont Unified School District will be moving forward with a Chinese (Mandarin) Immersion Program at Azevada Elementary School in Fall 2010. Due to the enthusiastic response of parents, the Fremont School Board has agreed to continue to recruit for a second kindergarten class and will receive applications on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are available in the District Office located at 4210 Technology Drive.
The start of the Chinese Immersion Program marks the culmination of over two years of work on the part of district staff, community and parents. Because of the strict conditions imposed by the School Board, parents and community supporters are continuing their efforts to privately raise the necessary start-up costs for two kindergarten classes, further ensuring a solid foundation for the program.
