Book editor and proofreader Laurie Gibson will offer a workshop to help aspiring writers achieve their publishing dreams. The free workshop entitled "Book Publishing 1-2-3: From the Writer's Fingers to the Reader's Hands" will be held at the Milpitas Public Library. Gibson will follow behind-the-scenes journey of a manuscript as it becomes a printed book, briefly discuss the children's literature market, and cast light on the world of self-publishing.
A professional book editor and proofreader for more than a dozen years, Laurie Gibson works with both experienced and first-time authors to help improve their writing and enhance their connection with readers. She also served as an instructor for the Extension program at both U.C. San Diego and U.C.L.A. for nearly a decade. Her education includes a Bachelor's degree in English, numerous undergraduate and graduate courses in journalism, and a specialized certificate in copyediting. She is currently pursuing a certificate with a communications focus through the Continuing Education program at Stanford University. Her experience will help you save hundreds of dollars in mistakes and wasted time.
This workshop is designed to encourage aspiring authors and boost their chances of getting published. "During this lecture-workshop, we'll look at how writers can improve their chances of getting published," said Gibson. "We'll discuss ideas for finding literary agents and follow the journey of a manuscript as it becomes a printed book. This information can help writers develop a broader perspective of and a greater appreciation for the publishing process, "she said. This program is free and is made possible by the Friends of the Milpitas Library. For more information call the information desk at (408) 262-1171 ext 3616. Bring a pen, paper, and your questions.
