Bill Mancebo's Player Spotlight

This week the spotlight shines on Fremont's Iven Ramirez.

Ramirez, 11, is aggressively pursuing a baseball career and plays for the Niles-Centerville Little League Majors Rangers. Mainly covering second base and home plate as catcher, Ramirez's talent recently got him selected to compete in a three-game series that took him to Sacramento where he played for the Niles Canyon Huskies. Soon he'll be on his way to Las Vegas where he will compete in another tournament.

Iven also has some football experience as a right guard and linebacker for the Fremont Football League Chiefs. Iven says that he enjoys football but baseball is the one sport that he has his eye on.

Ramirez is nearing the end of his sixth grade studies at Niles Elementary with math and PE as his favorite subjects. He said that he will miss a great teaching staff there, especially the support of Mrs. Seubert and Mrs. Narayanan.

He studies hard to achieve good grades knowing that his education will be put to good use someday soon but is truly determined to play pro ball in MLB, and if he has it his way it will be for the San Francisco Giants.

When he's not playing, practicing or traveling toward his aspirations in the sport of baseball, Iven will find a little time to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare II or do a little camping which allows him to visit with his family. Another talent he possesses is in the kitchen. Iven is interested in the culinary arts and bakes cookies quite often to his family's delight.

There must be other foods besides cookies for this young man and there is. His favorite dinner is Top Ramen and he'll follow that up with a warm brownie topped with vanilla ice cream.
