Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting
Submitted By Detective Bill Veteran, Fremont PD
Juan Mosso Mosso, 30 year-old Newark resident, was shot and killed by Fremont Police. On Sunday, June 13 at approximately 2:45 a.m. Officers responded to the Camden Village Apartments located at 38000 Camden St. after receiving a report of a man with a large knife threatening to kill his estranged wife. The wife's current boyfriend stated that he had been injured by the suspect and kicked out of the apartment. There were three children in the apartment, ages nine, four and two. The wife was bleeding.
When officers arrived they were refused entry into the apartment and ultimately had to force their way in. Once inside, officers were confronted by the suspect, still armed with the knife. Three officers fired their weapons killing the suspect. No one else in the apartment was seriously hurt. The wife and boyfriend had only minor injuries as the result of a struggle, not from the knife. The children were not injured.
The three officers involved in the shooting are veterans with the Fremont Police Department. All have been placed on routine administrative leave. This incident is being investigated jointly with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Fremont Police Department's Investigative Unit at (510) 790-6900.
