Washington High grad nite
Submitted By Kathy Andre
Graduation Season is upon us and Washington High School (WHS) has been working hard to create an outstanding event for their graduating seniors. To create a safe and incredibly fun graduation evening, WHS and many other high schools sponsor an event where seniors join together after graduation and have an evening of celebration.
Washington High is unique in that the location is a secret. Until the buses leave Prince of Peace at 10 p.m. on June 17, only 4 people will know the destination spot. When students arrive they'll be treated to an evening of activities, great food, and lots of surprises.
So, how does a school pull off something like this in these tough economic times? It is accomplished by hard working parent volunteers and through generous community contributions.
According to committee chairwomen Cathy Sullivan and Mary Rodriggs, this event would not be possible without the unending support of the following community organizations: Monetary donations from: Wal-Mart, Fremont Bank, and the Fremont Elks Lodge; concession stands through Aramark, making up almost half of the money raised; prizes and service donations from Fong Brothers, United Grocers, Sony, Dale Hardware, Costco, Great America, Oakland A's, Planet Fitness, Safeway, Trader Joe's, Raley's, Vienna Bakery, Fast Signs, Kim's Embroidery, and Fry's Electronics; and fundraising venues from Jack's Bar and Grill, and the Great Rotary 18th Annual Chili Cook-off.
Members of the community also donated tons of "treasures" for a bash of a yard sale on the school campus.
On behalf of the WHS Class of 2010 we'd like to thank you all for creating a safe and wonderful graduation evening for our Senior Class.
