Fun Run for New Haven students
By Suzanne Ortt
Fitness, family fun, and fundraising: all are integrated into the New Haven Booster Association's first fundraiser. Walk, run, bike, and even drive to the Fun Run/Walk and Family Carnival at Cesar Chavez Middle School (CCMS) on Saturday, June 12, from 9 a.m.to 2 p.m.
Walkers, runners, and spectators are invited to plan for a pleasurable day. Diverse activities will appeal to different folks. Fitness segments include 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs along the Alameda Creek Trail, as well as age-group races on the CCMS track and the "Fastest Feet Relay." If you are not a runner, walkers are also welcome. School groups will compete to win a place on a perpetual trophy.
The celebration continues until 2 p.m. James Logan High School cheerleaders will demonstrate their art skills at a face-painting booth as Logan sports teams, including: track, football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling and girls' softball will host game and food booths. Play basketball, or try juggling, football toss, and long jump. Snow cones, tacos with rice and beans, teriyaki chicken, rice and egg rolls, beverages, and cotton candy will be for sale during the day. Among the commercial booths are massages, tumbling, heart healthy information, and more. The music of D.J., Mr. Extremo will add to the festive atmosphere.
Tight budgets are impacting all area schools and the New Haven Unified School District is meeting the challenge with a new Booster Association. The June 12 event is the beginning of their effort to reach a goal of $460,000 for the next school year. Activities such as color guard, forensics, drama and band will benefit from Booster fundraising events.
Help the Boosters save school co-curricular programs. Join the fun on June 12.
