Bandits fall to Scorpions
By Giovanni Albanese Jr.
Bay Area Bandits had already clinched the Independent Women's Football League Tier II Pacific West Division title a week ago. On Saturday, May 29, the Bandits went to San Diego hoping to extend its win streak to six, but were humbled by the IWFL Tier I So Cal Scorpions, 43-6.
"Defensively, we came out there with a different game plan to cover their deep passing game," said Bandits GM Neda Mohammadi. "We weren't able to execute it well."
Making matters worse, the Bandits will be without offensive lineman Monica Gudiel for a minimum of two weeks due to a concussion sustained in the game, and wide receiver Jennifer Romanini is likely done for the season with an apparent torn meniscus, suffered in the third quarter on an illegal chop block.
Now 5-2, the Bandits will get a second shot at the Scorpions when the two sides meet up on Saturday, June 5, in the Bandits regular-season finale at Tak Fudenna Stadium in Fremont. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
"We are going to have to make some adjustments this week to get us back to where we need to be to secure a win for our last regular season home game," said Mohammadi.
