Islamic Art Exhibit
Submitted By Margaret Thornberry
A stunning exhibit of Islamic Art, "The Legacy of the Qur'an, Beauty of the Words," is now on display at the Fremont Main Library.
Inspired by the Fremont Cultural Arts Council's 2009 Cross-Cultural Arts Exhibit, the Islamic Art Exhibit Group formed to develop this first ever Bay Area wide exhibit of original works by local Islamic artists. In keeping with Earth Week, the group chose nature for their theme, selecting several verses from the Qur'an for the inspiration of adult artists.
Children were asked to create works based on the "The Everything Song" by Dawud Wharnsby Ali. These beautiful pieces will be on display in the main library main floor reading area through May 22nd. The younger Islamic artists' work will also be featured in a special display, located in the Children's section of the library, during the first three weeks of June.
Art lovers in the community can hope that this first exhibit of original Islamic Art by local artists will be the first of many. A version of "The Everything Song" can be found on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uMn1A75qIk.
