Hayward Police search for homicide suspect

Hayward police are searching for a suspect who fatally shot a male occupant of a vehicle at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Industrial Parkway. On Monday, May 3 about 6:45 p.m., Hayward Police dispatch received a call of a shooting that occurred on Mission Boulevard at Industrial Parkway in Hayward. The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Samuel Nava from Hayward. He was a senior at Hayward High School and played on the varsity baseball team. The victim was located about a mile south of that intersection in the parking lot of the Fairway Park Shopping Center on Mission Boulevard at Fairway Street. He was transported to Eden Hospital via ambulance, where he was pronounced deceased.
Thus far, the preliminary investigation has indicated that the victim and his friends were in a vehicle in the left turn lane of northbound Mission at Industrial. They made a U-turn onto southbound Mission when the suspect began shooting at them. The suspect was standing on the center median. Witnesses in the area saw the shooting and saw the suspect run westbound on Industrial Parkway on the south side of the street after firing. The victim's friends said that they saw the suspect a short time before the shooting. No further information on the motive has been released so far.

This is the seventh homicide of 2010 in Hayward. Crime Stoppers of Southern Alameda County is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
