Calling all Bay Area young entrepreneurs

Milpitas' Great Mall, in association with Prepared 4 Life, invites young entrepreneurs into the mall to participate in "Lemonade Day", a free community-wide, educational event designed to teach children how to start, own and operate their own business - a lemonade stand, on Saturday, May 15.
"Since we're in the heart of Silicon Valley, known globally for its amazing entrepreneurship, Great Mall is very proud to host an event that will encourage this great tradition," said Cristina Robles, director of mall marketing and business development at Great Mall. "Lemonade Day is a way for shoppers to get involved and help build a stronger community."
In preparation for the event, Great Mall is inviting youth, from pre-k to high school, to register for free for Lemonade Day at Guest Services, located in Neighborhood 5. On registration, each child will receive a yellow backpack with an informational workbook for the child and another for a responsible adult. The workbooks outline the steps needed to start a business, from setting a goal, creating a business plan, forming a budget and finding an investor, to saving money and donating a portion back to the community.
On May 15, some of the children who registered at Great Mall will return for Lemonade Day to set up a lemonade stand inside the mall, sell lemonade to shoppers and keep some of the money, while also re-paying investors and giving a portion of the proceeds to a local charity. Registration materials and lemonade stand space inside the mall is on a first-come, first-served basis, since both are limited
Lemonade Day was founded in Houston, Texas, in 2007 by Prepared 4 Life, which continues to run the program, whose mission is to train the next generation of entrepreneurs. Due to its overwhelming success in Texas, Lemonade Day is expanding to 12 markets this year, including the San Francisco Bay Area. Great Mall is one of two Bay Area locations hosting Lemonade Day. In 2009, Lemonade Day helped youth across Texas serve an estimated two million glasses of lemonade. Nearly $500,000 was then donated to charities.
"Our goal is to reach kids at a critical stage in their life, where they are at a crossroads between going down a very good or very bad path," said Michael Holthouse, founder of Prepared 4 Life. "It's important we teach future generations the importance of responsible business practices and instill the entrepreneurial spirit at a young age - an age that allows them to have the hope and vision to excel in the future."
