Fremont resident attends national child care conference

Jennifer Greppi-Freitas, a resident of Fremont, was chosen to represent area parents at the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies' (NACCRRA) National Policy Symposium, held March 9-13 in Washington, D.C. At the Symposium, Greppi-Freitas learned about national child care issues and had the opportunity to meet with members of Congress on Capitol Hill to share child care concerns and advocate for more affordable, high-quality child care for Fremont parents.
"We are extremely pleased to have parents such as Jennifer Greppi-Freitas attend NACCRRA's Policy Symposium," said Linda K. Smith, Executive Director of NACCRRA. "By attending the Symposium and voicing her child care concerns to policymakers, she is primed to effect change and improve the quality of care that California's children receive."
After the death of her husband, Greppi-Freitas had to care for her two young children by herself. With the help of a child care subsidy, Greppi-Freitas was able to place her children in quality child care while she completed her college education. After graduating and finding a job, she learned that she was in danger of losing her subsidy as a result of proposed budget cuts. She soon became actively involved in the campaign to ensure the continuation of California's subsidies, and now serves as the local organizer for Parent Voices, a grassroots organization of California parents working to expand child care subsidy funding so more children can have access to quality care.
"High-quality, affordable child care should be a reality for all of America's children," said Smith. "It is our hope that through Greppi-Freitas and other parents, we can finally get this message across to policymakers to not only improve the quality of child care in California, but across the nation as well."
