Fremont Table Tennis Club dominates
Submitted By Shashin Shodhan
Fremont Table Tennis Club (FTTC) players have had nine first-place finishes and two second-place finishes in rated events at open Northern California tournaments over the past three months.
Top promising students who have reached finals are 13-year-old Shruti Prasanna, Jared Wong (11), Kiran Prabakar (10) and Shreyas Prasanna (7). They are coached by Shashin Shodhan who came close to making the 2000 US Olympic Team and has won 15 national and international titles. Shodhan, a graduate of Mission San Jose High School, won the Under 2500 event at the 2009 ICC California State Open last December.
Jared Wong won six first-place trophies in one week at the 2010 Western Open on the UC Berkeley campus and the California State Open in Milpitas last month. Wong won the Under 800, 950 and 1100 events at the Western Open and the Under 600, 900 and 1200 events at the California State Open.
Wong also added a second-place trophy to his collection in the Under 1250 event at the Sacramento Winter Open, as well as a third-place finish in the Under 1000 event, while improving his rating the most among the 650-plus participants at the US Nationals in Las Vegas in December, 2009.
The brother-and-sister duo of Shruti Prasanna and Shreyas Prasanna both reached the finals of the Under 250 event at the California State Open. Shruti came back from a 9-6 deficit in the fifth and final game to win over younger brother Shreyas. Shruti attends Horner Junior High and Shreyas attends James Leitch Elementary School.
Ardenwood Elementary School student Kiran Prabakar won the Under 500 event at the 2010 Sacramento Winter Open.
FTTC has been in existence since 2007 and dominates the lower-rated events at Northern California tournaments. FTTC is a full-time, table-tennis club open three days a week for open play; twice a week for round robins; twice a week for junior programs; and every day for private lessons.
FTTC students will look to continue to win more trophies and win higher-rated events as they move up in their ratings. For more information, please visit www.fremonttabletennis.com. Those interested in learning table tennis, contact Shodhan at firstname.lastname@example.org or 510-366-5234.
