Bill Mancebo's Player Spotlight: Jennifer Romanini
This week the player spotlight shines bright on professional football player Jennifer Romanini.
With 10 years of basketball competition behind her Romanini is no stranger to sports. Two years ago she decided to take on a new challenge and tackle the challenge of women's pro football.
Staying in top condition is first and foremost for this woman of 27 years and she works hard at it through her work and play. Making her living as an independent personal trainer at Back to Sports Fitness and Therapy in San Francisco is an active career. In addition Romanini practices a weight lifting and conditioning routine five days a week.
All of that hard training pays off upon kickoff when Jennifer sports the roles of wide receiver, outside linebacker and kicker for the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) Bay Area Bandits football team.
A 2001 high school graduate from Sacred Heart Cathedral High, Jennifer placed her focus on exercise science and movement, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology at San Francisco State University.
If she could choose a career tomorrow it would be filling the slot as a firefighter in a San Francisco station with a wish to remain a Bay Area Bandit as long as she can. Romanini loves the sport and looks forward to watching the IWFL flourish while hoping the Bandits will rise to stay at the top.
What does she do when not doing all of the above? What else but working out, the time that remains is spent with her family. She's very close to her sister and next in line is her pit-bull Venus. Jennifer has close ties to her teammates and hangs out with them every chance she gets. Her travel plans are getting closer too with a distant trip to Sicily, Italy, in-store to learn about her heritage and eat the native cuisine.
Speaking of food, Nonni's lasagna sits at the very top of the list and Jennifer will then take anything chocolate when that's eaten; preferably chocolate layer cake.
If you'd like to see more of Romanini, that shouldn't be a problem because the Bandits have chosen Fremont as a home base. The Bandits kick off its season on Saturday, April 3, in Sacramento against the Sirens before playing its first home contest on Saturday, April 10, at Tak Fudenna Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m. You can read all about it at www.bayareabandits.com and be sure to check back here at TCV for post-game coverage.
