Bill Mancebo's Player Spotlight
This week the player spotlight is on wrestler Reza Habib.
At 22, this lifetime resident of Fremont proudly carries a wrestling history of nine years that began back in his days at American High School. As an American Eagle, Habib wore a varsity letter for sports such as football, volleyball and, of course, wrestling all before graduating in 2005.
Currently attending San Jose State University with a main goal of earning a degree in civil engineering this man is all about wrestling. Carrying a title of collegiate all-conference freestyle wrestling champ is not an easy task but this college senior wears it proudly as he has also qualified for the nationals in four consecutive years.
It's not easy to keep in shape but this big guy works hard at it. Outside of his regular wrestling practice sessions, Habib sticks to his P90X exercise routine like a religion and then bikes 15 miles a day to catch a bus that takes him to school.
When asked what he plans to do with his degree when he graduates in 2011, Reza says he would like to go back to his parent's homeland of Afghanistan. There he plans to construct buildings and highways. He sees this to be a perfect opportunity to give back to others who might not have the ability to improve their surroundings.
In his spare time Reza is a DJ at KSJS 90.5 radio station and for entertainment he loves to travel. He's been all around Europe and visited places such as Amsterdam, Spain, India, Canada and Mexico. He's looking forward to a short trip soon and will head south to explore the Greater Los Angeles area and is really looking forward to that.
Habib's favorite foods are of his cultural decent with his mother's native Afghani dishes of palao and kabobs at the very top of his list. For dessert he'll take a vanilla cake, namely birthday cake is his choice. It can be anyone's birthday cake because Reza says that he just loves the celebration.
