Cortese addresses Milpitas Democratic Club
Submitted By Steven Blomquist
Supervisor Dave Cortese spoke to the Milpitas Democratic Club on Saturday, February 27, about the current state of Santa Clara County and his goals for 2010. Cortese reiterated his promise to ensure that the entire county is operating at peak efficiency, so that every taxpayer dollar is put to its highest and best use. Current efforts underway include looking at costly consulting contracts and the county's health and hospital system.
He spoke about current efforts to make Santa Clara County a leader in environmentally friendly practices. Currently being developed are proposals to create a program to provide low cost loans for energy efficiency retrofits and renewable energy generation for private homeowners within the county. Furthermore, Cortese detailed current work to install solar panels and other renewable energy technologies on county facilities to partially offset the county's electrical bill, which would allow that money to be spent on safety net services for the residents. He reminded the attendees that his office is available to all residents for comments, suggestions and inquiries.
