Is Everybody Stupid?

Nationally known spoken word artist Ise Lyfe will perform his "Is Everybody Stupid(?)" - a fusion of spoken word with personal stories and photographs, and other material at Cal State East Bay (CSUEB.)

Women's Studies Lecturer Ericka Huggins arranged for Lyfe to do presentations both in her "Immigrant and Refugee Women" class, and for a general audience because she believes the Oakland resident to be a positive, young role model for aspiring poets, musicians and writers. "He does not demean himself, women or men - he uplifts; he can empower others to do the same. It is important for CSUEB students to hear him and support an awareness of the power of sound and words to transform us," said Huggins.

"Now, an Oakland arts commissioner, Lyfe affirms how crucial it is to consider the world around us from a global point of view. He is an artist who expands the listener's understanding of the intersections of race, class and gender as they are expressed in the myopic view of our world through music/lyrics fed to us through the popular music industry," she added.

The show will blend Lyfe's live stage performance with an interactive multi-media presentation that has been called "daring, hilarious, fast-paced and sure to leave audiences thinking."

Topics will range from President Obama's ascension to the presidency, to absurd television shows, and the millions of people who tune in.
