The Chanticleers Theatre shows its diversity and willingness to provide good theatre to our area by bringing battles of royalty, honor and three sons wanting their father's kingdom in James Goldman's "A Lion In Winter," directed by artistic director, Gary Wright. This is Gary's 60th directing assignment since he started in theatre in 1960.
All actors dream of playing a king, queen or dashing young knight and "The Lion In Winter" provides those roles. The King wants his youngest son, John to succeed him, but Queen Eleanor favors their oldest son, Richard for the throne. Audiences will remember Kathryn Hepburn's Academy Award winning performance as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine in the movie of the same name. Making their debut performance with Chanticleers, Keith Jefferds (Kensington) and Chris Macomber (Oakland) play King Henry Plantagenet and Queen Eleanor. Rounding out the cast are Analisa Svehaug (Oakland); Rob Mueller (San Leandro); Ruben Alvear, II (San Francisco); Jillian O'Malior (San Leandro); and Kai Brothers (San Francisco).
See what happens in "The Lion In Winter" at Chanticleers Theatre opening Friday, February 19 and playing through March 14. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. Doors open a half hour prior to performances.
