Have a romantic Valentine's Day

By Meenu Gupta

Indulge in romance this Valentine's Day. From gourmet dinners and chocolate fountains to romantic dances and enthralling entertainment, the Tri-City area provides countless opportunities to make this Valentine's Day one that couples will remember forever. President's Day, a holiday for many, will follow on Monday so you can dance the night away.

Images of hearts, doves, winged cupid have dominated February, the month to celebrate love for a long time, dating clear back to the Middle Ages. Legend has it that Valentine was an imprisoned man who fell in love with his jailor's daughter. Before he was put to death he sent the first 'valentine' when he wrote her a letter and signed it 'Your Valentine,' words still used on cards today.

Dinner/dance at ICC:
Lovebirds can enjoy a delicious dinner and bar at India Community Center in Milpitas. Scintillating fire dances by the 'Fire Pixie' group and dance performances by Jollywood and Stayfit choreographed by Mona Sampath Dance Company, will add an unforgettable sparkle to the romantic night. During the party guests will enjoy dance performance by Marco, Shelly and Ricky, dancing with Salim promise entertainment for everyone. Best dressed man, woman and couple will be awarded. Swing to lilting tunes of romantic duets and karaoke. To purchase tickets visit www.IndiaCC.org. The proceeds will go towards the ICC Senior Program, which hosts activities such as Yoga, academic discussions, and senior nutrition program.

Niles Canyon Wine Train:
One of the best ways to celebrate is to enjoy a relaxing vintage train ride through scenic Niles Canyon from Sunol to Niles and back. En route six wines selected from the Livermore Valley will be served paired with hors d'oeuvres. The train features Southern Pacific parlor-lounge car #2979, newly restored to its elegant 1940 appearance. Winner of an Art Deco Society of California preservation award, the car features plush lounge seating and a semi-circular mahogany bar framed by etched glass and mirrors. An open air car is also included on the train to enjoy the picturesque view. 1940 s attire is encouraged. Tickets are $75. To purchase tickets, please visit www.ncry.org. Please note that the parlor-lounge car is not wheelchair-accessible.

Valentine Masti:
Spend your Valentine's Day with double treat- listening to romantic music while enjoying sumptuous dinner. INDUZ, a non-profit organization, presents Valentine Masti 2010 a complete package of fun for the entire family featuring couple games, DJ dancing, separate kids area with kids activities and free childcare. Proceeds benefit Induz's art and music programs for underprivileged children. Purchase tickets at www.sulekha.com
