Announcing release of children's concerts DVD
Submitted By Sue Rose
The Fremont Symphony Orchestra announces the release of a short documentary DVD about the free annual Children's Concerts. The film was funded by a one-time grant from the California Arts Council to raise awareness in the community about the significant public value of the Fremont Symphony's Children's Concerts.
Conductor David Sloss says, "We've taken the DVD on a "road show" to service organizations and it's a big hit. It captures the powerful educational impact of the concerts on students." You can also view the film online at www.fremontsymphony.org.
The free annual Children's Concerts give 4,000 elementary school students in our community the opportunity to experience a live symphony orchestra concert for the very first time. Students from Fremont, Newark, Union City, Sunol and Milpitas school districts attend a concert with their 4th through 6th grade classes as a weekday field trip. Students from the California School for the Blind, private schools and home-schooled children also participate. The 36th annual Children's Concerts will be held in Fremont on March 30 at Ohlone College. The 11th annual Milpitas Children's Concerts will be presented on April 1 at Milpitas High School.
Concerts are presented in partnership with Fremont and Milpitas school districts and Ohlone College. There is broad based community support for the concerts, with funding provided by corporations, foundations, service organizations, the Fremont Symphony Guild, Musician's Performance Fund, AFofL and individual donors.
