Fremont Gurdwara Sahib will award $20,000 in scholarships
Submitted By Harjot S. Khalsa
To recognize and celebrate the outstanding leadership, scholarship, and character of Sikh youths, Fremont Gurdwara has established an annual scholarship fund. California, college-bound, high school seniors are eligible for scholarships that range from $500 to $1,000 each, from a total of $20,000 to be awarded. The money can be used by the recipient for college expenses at any post-secondary institution. A Gursikh Parivar has promised $ 10,000 for scholarships while $ 10,000 will be from Gurdwara Sahib.
To be considered for Fremont Gurdwara Sahib Scholarship awards, the applicant must be sikh, reside in California and be in his or her final year of high school (Class of 2010). Interested students should apply by the February 11 deadline. Applicants are required to submit a minimum of one letter of recommendation or up to two. Each recommendation should be from individual(s) who are knowledgeable about the student's academic ability and can personally provide insight into personal characteristics, achievements, motivation, and potential.
Letters of recommendation must be emailed by the February 11 deadline to firstname.lastname@example.org. A selection committee of highly qualified people has been organized to select the scholarship recipients.
Bhai Harjot Singh Khalsa, President of Fremont Gurdwara Sahib, hopes to set an example for other Guru Ghars looking to recognize Sikh youth. For more information about the scholarship, please visit: www.fremontgurdwara.org.
