Milpitas Fire Department clears SB I-880

Submitted By Milpitas Fire Department

Four units from Milpitas Fire Stations 1 and 3 responded at 5.38 p.m. on January 22 to a multi-vehicle accident involving a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) bus and three other vehicles on south-bound I-880, north of SR 237.

A stacked pattern of fire apparatus was used to block lanes 1, 2, 3 and 4 for an hour to provide crews and the victim, to whom they attended, with a safe area. Fire units used a flare pattern for additional security.

Two paramedic ambulances form American Medical Response transported two victims to the nearest trauma center (Regional Medical Center). One was a bus passenger and the second from one of the other vehicles involved.

Firefighters did not sustain any injuries or fatalities. California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
