Kindergarten Resource Faire
By Meenu Gupta
Parents, mark your calendars; an opportunity to know all that you want to know, to choose the preschool for your toddler is knocking on your door. Visit the faire this Saturday to get all the information in one place. "This is the FUN (Fremont, Union City, & Newark) Mothers' Club's sixth year organizing the preschool faire. In the past, several hundred families join us. We are eagerly looking forward to 300+ families this year," said Tabitha Chaudhury, Preschool & Kindergarten Faire Coordinator. "We have approximately 40 different preschools and kindergartens in attendance along with a few facilities that cater to young children such as local swim schools and gymnasiums."
"This year we are planning a child's play area so parents will have the opportunity to 'check in' their children while they talk to different schools about philosophies, schedules, ratios and any other details relevant to the choice of where to send their child for early education," said Chaudhury.
Every year the event has a guest speaker who talks to families about the importance of early childhood education, how to select a quality program that fits their child's personality, and tells the difference between the various programs available to families today. The guest speaker this year is Suzette Takei. She is presenting 'Play?? What about teaching them to read, write & count?' This is a very relevant topic to families trying to make the best decision about what kind of learning environment will most appeal to their child.
Suzette's talk covers "why today's educational experts agree that young children need to play more as well as the 'how' and 'why' they actually learn best through play. Creating a play-based program that prepares young children for the rigors of Kindergarten and beyond. Many take home activities to move your classroom and lessons into the world of creative, hands-on active learning." Should a family not be able to make Suzette's presentation, they could visit her website at www.tutortots.org and learn more about Suzette's many inspiring workshops.
"I thought it is an excellent event that brings together all these resources in one place," said Susie Habild, last year's participant at Our Savior Lutheran Preschool. Bring your questions and talk with teachers and directors from local schools to help make the best choice for your child's educational needs. "We encourage our participants to bring their facility information to share with families. Our goal is to have as many schools and programs represented as possible, making it easy for families to interview, compare and make informed decisions," said Chaudhury.
The preschool faire will be held at Christian Community School's multi-use room. Admission is free to everyone. In the Tri-Cities, there are more than 100 preschools to choose from, as well as public, private, and catholic Kindergarten-elementary schools. Creative life preschool, Fremont parents' nursery school, Holy spirit preschool, Nature's gift preschool, Watch me grow preschool, Sunol Glen Preschool, Play 2 learn preschool, St. Edwards School, you name it, you will find them all in the faire.
The event is organized by the FUN Mothers' Club as a community outreach project to benefit the families in the community. For details visit www.funmothersclub.org. The mothers' club is open to parents and their families with young children in the Fremont, Union City, and Newark community. This is an all-volunteer, non-profit club to share knowledge, experience friendships and promote a sense of community.
