Youth Sports Grant
By Dustin Findley
Individuals or local youth sports organizations representing Milpitas in a sporting event may apply for Youth Sports Grants from the City. Participants must be aged 18 years or younger.
An individual can apply for a grant of $500, a team $1,000. Each individual or team may apply for one grant award per fiscal year.
Funding consideration will be given where additional monies are required for a special tournament or for an event incurring extra expense because participants are advancing beyond normal league play. Consideration will also be given to one-time activities or equipment purchases designed to address a significant need or problem the organization cannot routinely finance.
Applications to address financial difficulties arising from an unexpected event or emergency (theft, vandalism, fire, weather, etc.) to avoid program or service disruption, interruption or cancellation would be considered.
Any application that exceeds $500 for individuals and $1,000 for groups must justify an extraordinary need and be highly meritorious, deserving or worthy for consideration by City Council.
The Youth Sports Assistant Fund has its own budget each fiscal year, starting July 1. Monies are dispersed on a first-come-first-served basis until the fund is depleted for that fiscal year.
"At this point, halfway through the year, the funding is almost out," said Aaron Bueno, Sports Center Supervisor.
Money will be available starting on July 1, 2010 when the new fiscal year begins.
Applications are available online, at the Milpitas Sports Center and at all city-owned buildings. Visit the Milpitas website, www.ci.milpitas.ca.gov, Departments > Parks and Recreation > Sponsorships and Grants to find the Youth Sports Grant application.
