Hess leads Newark to second at Queen of the Mat
MSJ's Dickstein tops her division

Newark Memorial High School's girls wrestling team continued their habit of placing highly in local wrestling tournaments. The Cougars finished in second place at the Queen of the Mat tournament, held at Antioch High School on Saturday, Jan. 2.
Alyssa Hess won her third-straight tournament, taking the 154-pound division, as well as being voted the Most Valuable Wrestler in the upper weight classes.
Siwen Dickstein of Mission San Jose High School, who is the only female on the Mission wrestling team, was another local champion. Dickstein won the 108-pound division.
Impressive showings were turned in by Newark's Mika Anderson, who finished second in the 236-pound division. Her teammates Lisa Tran (108 pounds), Laura Choate (138 pounds) and Danielle Guzman (189 pounds) each recorded fourth-place finishes. |
