Coach Greg Parks, along with assistants Dave Loya, Jeff Sanchez and Michael Parks, led the 2009 Fremont Football League (FFL) National Division Steelers to a record-setting undefeated season.
In late November, the number-one seeded FFL Steelers battled against the second-seeded Buccaneers for the National Division Championship. It was a nail-biting game, one that left both teams scoreless at halftime. This was unusual for the Steelers who had scored double figures by halftime in all of its previous games.
The Steelers, who had shut out each of its previous opponents, found themselves in a situation it hadn't seen all season from any of its opponents when the Bucs reached the Steelers two-yard line and threatened to score. But the Steelers' defense did not panic, remaining strong, and they were able to prevent the Bucs from scoring. Ultimately, the Steelers defeated the Buccaneers, 14-0, closing out a remarkable season.
The Steelers ended their season undefeated (10-0) and the champions of the FFL National Division. In addition, the FFL Steelers made history by becoming the first team in FFL's 45-year history to go an entire season without allowing any of their opponents to score a single point. Essentially, the 2009 Steelers had a "perfect season," winning each of their games and shutting out each opponent.
Congratulations 2009 FFL National Division Steelers on closing out a successful season, one that will be cherished for many, many years to come by the players, cheerleaders, coaches and fans. |
