Holiday Season Shopping Safety

Submitted By Officer Gene Smith

During the holiday season, criminal activity has a tendency to increase. For this reason, the Milpitas Police Department would like to offer you the following shopping safety tips to help you have a safe and enjoyable holiday season.

Park your vehicle in well lit areas.

Make sure all of your vehicle windows and doors are secure.
Prior to arriving at a shopping center, lock all valuables and packages in the trunk.

If your vehicle has an alarm, make sure it is activated.

Shop with a friend, there is safety in numbers.

Do not carry large amounts of cash. Instead pay for purchases with check, credit or debit cards.

Do not leave your purse or other valuables unattended for any amount of time, especially in shopping carts.

If you return to your vehicle to drop off packages and intend to continue shopping, re-park your vehicle in a different location and secure the packages in the trunk.

For further information, please contact the Milpitas Police Department Police Community Relations Unit at (408) 586-2525 or local law enforcement.
