Hayward Animal Shelter will hold its Christmas adoption event, A Home for the Holidays, on Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13.

Kittens, cats, dogs, puppies, bunnies and cute critters are looking for new homes for Christmas and beyond. Additionally, there will be a gift boutique, raffle, activities and treats for the children and a gift for each adopted pet.

The event is sponsored by the Hayward Animal Shelter Volunteers.

"The adoption fee covers spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations and a carrier (for cats, kittens, bunnies, small critters). All pets are checked and treated by a veterinarian before adoption to ensure good health. The dogs are tested for temperament before being offered for adoption," explained volunteer Christina Gin.

"We charge less than the typical $250, or more, that a vet charges to vaccinate, spay or neuter a cat or a dog. The shelter also sells low-cost spay/neuter certificates to owners whose pets are already intact. A low-cost certificate for a male cat/kitten would be $20," she concluded.
