Stompers win Crossroads Tourney

Submitted By Stompers Parents

FC Fremont House League U-14 girls powerhouse Fremont Stompers, after taking first place in the regular season and winning Fremont's Director's Cup, traveled to Dublin for the Dublin Crossroads Tournament and swept four games to conclude their season with a bang.

Stompers were glad to have two guest players - Cheyenne Gilman of the Lightning Bolts and Kayla Hamro of the Burn - play with them. Stompers were able to add the players because two of their regular players weren't able to attend the Crossroads Tournament.

On Saturday, Nov. 21, the Stompers kicked off their tournament against the Storm (Pleasanton). Stompers won with a convincing 5-0 win on goals by five different players - Kosha Patel, Mayron Mulugeta, Tylore Bell, Hamro and Gilman.

In the second game, Stompers played team Dublin, dominating the game again, 5-0. Stompers scored three goals in the first half and two more early in the second half en route to their second win of the tournament. Goals in this game were scored by Patel, Mulugeta, Bell, Megan Alexander and Krupa Patel.

Game three on Sunday, Nov. 22, determined who advanced to the championship game. Stompers played a hard game, but as tough as they are, team Livermore managed to score a goal against them for a 1-1 tie.

Despite the tie, the Stompers advanced to the championship due to their greater goal differential. Janelle Teixeira scored the lone goal for Stompers.

Stompers played a marvelous game in the finals against team San Ramon, winning by a 3-1 margin. Nothing thrilled the Stompers more than when defense player Jessica Almanza blasted home a goal from a shot she took at midfield.

Also adding to this victory were the great saves by goalie Ashley Dominguez who got injured in a run-in with a San Ramon player in the final three minutes of the game. Dominguez was able to finish the game. Mulugeta and Anderson put home the Stompers' other goals in the victory.

Stompers, coached by Tom Teixeira, Pete Alexander and Dave Phippen, are comprised of Janelle Teixeira, Maddy Phippen, Megan Alexander, Kosha Patel, Mayron Mulugeta, Jessica Almanza, Aranya Gairola, Ashley Dominguez, Krupa Patel, Evani Shah, Tylore Bell, Skylar Anderson, Alexandra Ulrich, Anika Balse, Pavitra Ravishankar, Tanishtha Kapoor, and guest players Cheyenne Gilman and Kayla Hamro.
