The Ralph & Mary Ruggieri Senior Center held its annual Thanksgiving Luncheon on November 25. Residents, along with friends and family, were treated to sliced turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and steamed vegetables, with sparkling apple cider to drink and pumpkin pie for dessert.

Larry Orozco, Recreation Supervisor, gave a few more details about the annual luncheon and the people who attend.

"The lunch is prepared at another site," he said. "The themed lunches are reserved in advance; it's $3.25 for members and $4.75 for non-members. We get our gear together and look through the boxes. Every month we have a different themed event. It's the seniors from town and some from our neighboring cities. They enjoy coming out and socializing with their friends so they're not at home being couch potatoes."

"Seniors can get together and make a special day. The center is so generous to have this for us...you feel comfortable," said Florence Mederos, a regular visitor to the Senior Center.

"It gives us a chance to get away from the TV set," said Willie Hayman another regular visitor who also loves the special events. "It's a chance to communicate with other people....there's no other place to get a meal like this."

The ambiance of the entire room reflected their sentiments; the auditorium was a visual delight, decked in festive colors. Circular tables were arranged in groups of five. Music from the forties and fifties played through the stereo system and there was lively chatter and much laughter among the crowd. The sunlight streaming through the skylights added to the occasion.

The visitors to the Senior Center are diverse abut they all agree on one thing: they cherish every day of their lives, and feel that these events are a reminder to live life to the full.

"If you're talking about us seniors, every day is Thanksgiving," concluded Hyman.
