Donations sent to help typhoon victims in Philippines
Submitted By Julius Willis
A donation of more than 1700 pounds of clothing and other household goods were shipped to the Philippines to aid the victims of flooding caused by two recent typhoons that struck the country. The shipment was made possible by the law firm of Chua, Tinsay & Vega in cooperation with the University of the Philippines Sigma Rho Fraternity's Northern California Chapter and Alpha Cargo, a local cargo-handling firm.
The UP Sigma Rho fraternity NC chapter collected the donations of clothing and other personal merchandise while the law firm Chua, Vega & Tinsay arranged for Alpha Cargo to ship the goods free of charge, as relief aid to the flood victims.
Typhoon Ondoy which struck the Philippines recently was especially devastating as it flooded an unusually large portion of the Greater Manila area and surrounding communities. Mudslides that followed in the wake of two other typhoons caused thousands of homes to be lost or damaged. In addition, more than 300 people lost their lives while tens of thousands were rendered homeless.
