Aztecas end season on high note

Submitted By Monica Sierra

Newark Aztecas, an Under-12 boys Gold Division team of the Golden State Soccer League, had a great 2009 season. They started the preseason with a second-place finish at the Newark Dumbarton Classic and a second-place finish at the Willow Cup in San Jose.

Their regular season started a little slow with a loss in the first game but the boys showed they had hearts of champions by winning their next five games.

Aztecas went into the final game of the season in a must-win situation. Their opponent was a team in which they had bad luck when they played them three other times during the season. However, the boys never lost their confidence and fought hard to win their final game, 5-2, ending the season with an 8-1-1 record and crowned GSSL Gold Division Champions.

Aztecas are still working hard and, in January, they hope to bring a state cup title home to Newark. Thanks to the Newark Soccer Club for all of their support.
