Women's Volleyball: Lady Pioneers split week After losing their last five games during their six-game road trip, the California State University East Bay volleyball team played what was their best game of the season. After falling in five sets to California State University Monterey Bay on Friday, Nov. 6, the Lady Pioneers fought back against San Francisco State on Saturday, Nov. 7, winning in five sets at San Francisco against the Lady Gators.
After winning the first set 25-20, the Lady Pioneers dropped the next two sets 17-25 and 23-25. Down 2-1 in the match, East Bay fought back, clawing through the next two sets 25-23 and the fifth and final set 16-14.
Brianna Bryant led the Lady Pioneers with 18 kills on the night, including a key kill in the fifth set to give East Bay a 14-13 lead. Katie Glomb recorded 22 digs on the night and Katie Gellerman recorded a double-double with her 14 kills and 17 digs.
East Bay (9-20, 7-13) will look to finish the season on a high note with a double-digit win total when they host Humboldt State on Friday, Nov. 13, and Sonoma State in the season finale on Saturday, Nov. 14.
Men's Basketball (exhibition): U.C. Davis 83, East Bay 56 The East Bay Men's Basketball team tipped off their exhibition season on Wednesday, Nov. 4, losing to the Aggies of U.C. Davis 83-56.
The Aggies fought past a 14-13 deficit, going up by two off a 3-pointer by Ryan Silva to put the Aggies up 16-14. Davis would not turn back, going up by as much as 17 at halftime, leading 46-29. Silva finished with five points on the night with one rebound and two assists.
The Pioneers will tipoff the regular season on November 20 when they host San Diego Christian in Hayward at 7 p.m.
Women's Basketball (exhibition): San Jose State 62, East Bay 44 After falling in their exhibition opener to Nevada-Reno 94-52 on November 1, the Lady Pioneers lost their second exhibition game, falling to the San Jose State Spartans 62-44 on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The Lady Pioneers will open their regular season on November 20 against Western Washington in Hayward at 7 p.m. |
