Heart of the Bay Summit
By Simon Wong
Social services agencies, community action groups, Hayward residents, youth, concerned citizens, business, education and elected officials will meet at the Heart of the Bay Summit on Saturday, November 7 from 9 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. It is free to attend.
The conference is a chance to learn about the community - health concerns, available services and resources that are available or needed, how to become involved, tobacco use and its cause and effects, violence and intervention and prevention programs, homelessness and the needs of the homeless.
Besides education, the event is designed to facilitate partnerships and collaboration. Attendees will have opportunities to begin working with others to understand and solve problems in their communities, meet fellow community members, learn of services and resources that might be needed, satisfy those needs, meet organizations and groups, with which they wish to be involved or work, and develop an action plan to address specific issues in their communities.
Anyone concerned about violence, smoking, health issues, homelessness and community services is encouraged to attend this event which is funded and organized by Alameda County Health Care Services Agency, Public Health Department Tobacco Master Settlement Funds, Associated Students of Cal State East Bay, South Hayward Parish, Hayward Community Action Network and the South Hayward Neighborhood Collaborative.
Lunch is included. Parking, transportation and Spanish language assistance are available upon request.
To register, RSVP to HaywardCAN@gmail.com by November 1 and mention any dietary, transportation and translation requirements.
