Brian Hughes Named YMCA Volunteer of the Year
Submitted By David Hembree
The Fremont/Newark YMCA honored Brian Hughes as its Volunteer of the Year at the YMCA of the East Bay Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner held on October 21, at Scott's Seafood in Oakland.
"Brian is an outstanding ambassador and advocate for the YMCA. Beyond his role on our Board of Managers, he was instrumental in our success this year through fundraising and promoting the YMCA in community-focused projects," states David Hembree, executive director of the Fremont/Newark branch of the YMCA of the East Bay.
Hughes was influential in expanding the popular YMCA Kid City program at the 2009 Fremont Festival of the Arts, and could be seen driving the Fremont/Newark YMCA entry in the Fourth of July parade. His latest project is chairing the 2010 Annual Partners Campaign to raise funds to send children to YMCA summer camp and other programs for children and families.
"I'm always thinking about helping out where I can," says Hughes, who serves as Relationship Officer for Nonprofit Agencies at Fremont Bank. "Linking people and helping them find new ways to get to their goals is important to me. It's just part of doing the right thing."
