Booths and workshops will focus on the needs of senior citizens at the Health and Resources Faire for Seniors. Patrons will have the opportunity to enjoy free entertainment and gain quality information. "This our eleventh year hosting the Faire," said Recreation Coordinator, Kelly Hess "This year promises to be one of the best; with many health care and information providers on hand."
Many agencies will be present to offer their expertise on a wide range of services in Newark.
To assist local non-profits with their holiday food drives, new toys, canned goods will also be collected at the faire. Receptacles will be located by the entrance. Participate in the harvest of giving which is needed this year, more than ever. "Canned foods, boxed foods can be donated, nothing perishable is acceptable," said Hess.
The faire is for all seniors and folks who need information and resources for seniors regardless of their city of residence. It is a free event, hosted by the Newark Senior. No registration is required. Entertainment will be provided by Betty Gentry's Ladies Tap class, Gerri Lee Castro's Hula, Hula, Hula for seniors, Linda Lee - California Line Dancing Association of America.
Free testing of blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and osteoporosis screenings will be part of the faire. Flu shots will also be available for $5 but if you are covered by Medicare Part B, there is no cost. Pneumonia shots will be offered for $45, highly recommended for those 65 years and older. Please bring your Medicare and/or other health insurance card for the flu vaccination.
The get-together will offer free refreshments, entertainment and a chance to socialize with your neighbors. For more information, please contact the Newark Senior Center at (510) 578-4840.
