CSD drops a tight one
By Giovanni Albanese Jr.
California School for the Deaf football traveled to James Elliot Christian High on Friday, Oct. 9, in hopes of ending their three-game slide. Despite putting forth another hard-nosed defensive effort, they fell 18-12.
Freshman quarterback Carlos Lopez led the CSD attack, going 9-20 for 155 yards. Sophomore RB Jonathan Solana scored twice while rushing for 75 yards on 15 carries.
"Our players played hard Friday," said Eagles Head Coach Kevin Bella. "We missed some opportunities when we had the ball; penalties and fumbles hurt our momentum (but) we never gave up.
"I expect this team to continue to improve during the season," Bella continued. "We have seven sophomore/freshman starting on both sides (of the ball) and I am very positive that we can learn and keep forward in right direction."
Next up for CSD is another road test, as the Eagles travel to Berean Christian Friday, Oct. 16, for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
