PAWS for a CAUSE
Submitted By Sarah Hoang
Washington High School is holding its First Annual Paws for a Cause, a non-profit charity walk in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. We are inviting everyone in the community (students, teachers, family, etc.) to come join us in trying to achieve our goal of raising $4,000 to donate to the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation. HERS started a program called Bras for Body & Soul, which fits women who have undergone mastectomies with special bras containing silicone breasts, as well as various other noble endeavors. For more information, please visit http://www.hersfund.org.
Paws for a Cause will be held at Washington High School on October 10 from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. We will be walking across campus, but the check-in booth and start of the course are located at the freshman football fields (by the pool). General parking is at Tak Fudenna Stadium.
Our goal is to spread awareness about Breast Cancer throughout our community by walking, running, or donating to this event. All donations are welcome. Donations are not required; if you want to join in the community through this walk but choose not to donate, that is perfectly acceptable. All participants who walk will be entered into a raffle to win a pair of pink breast cancer shoes from Foot Solutions, with retail value of $300.
Those that donate $25 or more will receive a free pink t-shirt as well. At the event there will be booths from local businesses, representatives from the HERS Foundation, and a fundraising BBQ provided by the WHS Senior Class. There will also be a station where you can show who you're walking for by receiving a Pink Paw-you can write the name of whom you are supporting and tape it to your shirt as you walk.
Students that want to walk will be able to receive community service hours. For those who don't donate, they will receive 5 community service hours. Those who donate $25 or more will receive 10 hours. Make sure you check in to our community service booth before walking, and check out once you've finished, in order to receive your hours.
If you want to help your class receive spirit week points, make sure that you check-in. Get as many people in your class to join you for more points towards your spirit week points!
If you are walking for someone who is currently living with, has survived, or passed on because of breast cancer, we want to give you the opportunity to show who you are walking for by giving you a pink paw that can be pinned or taped to your t-shirt.
If your family is a matching funds recipient, we will be able to give you an official Washington High School letter for you to turn in on behalf of our walk.
All business sponsors who choose to donate $200 or more in money or in-kind donations will receive a plaque from Washington High School thanking you for your contribution. Individual and business sponsors who donate $100 or more will have their name written on a poster displayed at Washington High School the day of our walk.
