Fremont wins battle of Rampages
Submitted By Paul Dunn
In their fourth game of the current campaign, Fremont Rampage produced their best performance to date against a solid Mustang Rampage side in Danville, winning 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Fremont Rampage, coming off a bye week, started strong, and their fluent passing game cut though the Danville side's defense on several occasions early on. Mustang Rampage tried to mount attacks but was thwarted by strong defense, particularly by Fremont fullbacks Aileen Cheng and Malinda Cheung.
On the half hour, Fremont broke the deadlock on a sweeping move down the left wing; when midfielder Karina Paonessa found left wing Erica Ohye with a precise pass. Ohye charged down the left wing and just before the goal line made a low hard cross towards goal where Megan Dunn beat the defense to the near post and slotted home a first-time shot past the keeper.
Minutes later, in almost identical fashion, Paonessa, Ohye and Dunn linked up to make the half time score 2-0.
In the second half, The Fremont Rampage pressed home their advantage and the Mustangs had difficulty mounting any serious attacks on the Fremont goal. Fremont went close to increasing their lead on several occasions: Ohye picking up on a weak clearance, beat the defense only to see her shot cannon off the Danville crossbar; and midfielder Rhian Dunn almost set up twin sister, Megan for her hat trick, but Megan could not get her shot on goal.
Dimple Patel, Jessica Spano and Molly Cory all had good opportunities, but in the end, the only second-half goal came from a Rhian Dunn corner to Selina Mahesri, who turned quickly and shot past the keeper into the roof of the net.
Goalkeeper Andrea Hanna recorded a clean sheet for the Fremont Rampage in the team's road victory.
