Ohlone Board report

Submitted By Bob Brunton

At the September Board of Trustees workshop, Ohlone College President Dr. Gari Browning addressed conditions of Ohlone's science labs and classrooms. Housed primarily in building 2 at the Fremont campus these facilities do not meet current OSHA, handicap or earthquake standards or science laboratory ventilation best practices.

Led by Ohlone's Lucky Lofton, members of the Board of Trustees toured the facilities. The administration offered several possible solutions including use of remaining 2002 bond funds to purchase and equip portable classrooms. A final recommendation with cost estimates will be forthcoming at a future board meeting.

At the same workshop, the Board heard results of a phone survey for a future Ohlone Bond. Comments were favorable toward community colleges and Ohlone in particular. The amount tested was $350 million for inclusion on the November 2010 ballot.
