Artist shares painting techniques

Submitted By Lucinda Bender

Join the Fremont Art Association (FAA) in welcoming October guest artist, Ed Lucey. Lucey will share his techniques in water soluble oils on canvas. "No matter what the subject, I like to show the brushwork or 'structure' of the painting with a technique known as 'alla prima'," says Lucey.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 7th at 7 p.m. at the FAA Gallery. Lucey believes that there is a wealth of subject matter here in California; therefore he tends to paint scenes from the Bay Area and surrounding countryside. He paints in his Los Gatos studio where he has lived for many years.

Lucey's early education was at San Jose State University and later his art and design studies were at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Although his education was in industrial design and he has worked as a product designer for thirty-five years, Lucey has used acrylic and watercolor media professionally and as a painter for almost as long.

Managing his own design business gave Lucey time to teach in Essen, Germany with a Fulbright Grant, San Jose State University and Stanford University. He has been represented by many prestigious galleries in the Bay Area. His work has won awards at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, the Los Gatos Art Association, the Visual Artists Association Summit at the Triton Museum in Santa Clara and the Santa Clara County Fair.
