By David J. Nicolas

The Chabot football team lost its second game of the year, 21-28, against San Jose Community College on September 19. The Gladiators matched each SJCC touchdown and took the game into extra time with a quick touchdown in the fourth quarter, but could not stop their opponents' early overtime run.

Chabot converted 23 first downs, rushed for 172 yards and passed 305 yards. This week, the team goes on the road and hopes to improve its 1-2 record on Friday, Sept. 26, against Foothill College. The game begins at 7 p.m.

The men's soccer team carried its momentum from last week's victory against College of the Redwoods and beat Napa Valley College, 3-0, on September 15. Jun Nishioka, Andres Ponce and Roberto Amezquita each scored. But the men could not find the back of the net against Contra Costa College on September 18, earning their second tie of the season. They are now 2-1-2. They play Merritt College on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Alden E. Oliver Sport Park at 4 p.m.

The women's soccer team lost its fourth straight game against Yuba College of Marysville, 2-0. The team looks to improve its 1-5-1 record against Monterey Peninsula College on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m.

After five sets, the women's volleyball team defeated Los Medanos College of Pittsburg on September 15. The Lady Gladiators improve their record to 6-4. They take on West Hills College on September 25 at noon.

Seven wrestlers earned a semi-final spot in the Sacramento City College tournament on September 19. Stephan de La Cruz placed first in the 149-pound weight class. Dwight Flores got another first-place victory for the Gladiators in the 174-pound weight class. Tony Rolandelli competed at 184 pounds and received second place. Jiovanni Paredes earned fourth place in the 147-pound weight class, while Milo Anderson (184 pounds) and George Palmer (285 pounds) secured sixth places in their weight classes.
