Structure Fire Response

At 1428 hours (2:28 p.m.) on Thursday, September 10, 2009 the Milpitas Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 679 and 669 N. Abel St.
Upon arrival on the scene at 1433 hours fire crews witnessed smoke and flames coming from the roof of the duplex at 679 N. Abel St. and fire in the eaves of the duplex at 669 N. Abel St.
A second alarm at 1440 hours and ultimately a third alarm at 1519 hours (3:19 p.m.) was called to suppress the fire and protect nearby structures.
On scene crews secured power lines on the ground and a natural gas leak. It took approximately one hour to extinguish the fire. There were no confirmed injuries related to the fire.
The last mutual aid crew was released at 1738 hours (5:38 p.m.)
The Milpitas Fire Prevention Division is currently investigating the incident.
Responding units included One Fremont Engine Company and Battalion Chief; one Santa Clara County Hazardous Materials (Haz Mat) Team, three Milpitas Engines, two trucks, the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), two Battalion Chiefs, one Investigator, the Assistant Fire Marshall, the Milpitas Public Information Officer (PIO); Fremont Engine 55, Truck 57 and Battalion 5; San Jose Engines 23, 29, Truck 29 and Battalion 29; Santa Clara City Rescue 2; Two American Medical Response (AMR) units; Red Cross; and The Fire Associates.
