Take the Tour de Newark bike challenge

Turns, thrilling speeds and rolling along with the wind guarantees an exciting experience for all cycling skill levels. A virtual 615 miles path around Newark waits for those daring enough to accept the challenge. Do you have what it takes?

Test your stamina as you build your health. There is no deadline to sign up and participants can sign up in person at the Newark Community Center or register on-line. by setting up an account with the Recreation Department by calling (510) 578-4620. This challenge is for all ages and is open to both Newark residents and non-residents. There is no registration fee for this challenge, however, if participants wish to use the equipment in the Silliman fitness center they will either need a membership pass or pay the regular drop-in fee.

Use of a personal bike or Silliman stationary equipment qualifies. The goal of this challenge, sponsored in part by a grant from Kaiser Permanente, is to improve the health and physical fitness of participants. This challenge begins in Los Angeles and will finish up at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. Some legs will be time trials, some will be for distance.

Distance traveled upon completion will be approximately 600 miles. Although the event is free, please register by using class #31541. A daily drop-in fee or membership pass is required for entry and use of Silliman Center equipment. A registration form must be turned into the front desk in order to be recognized for finishing the challenge. For more information contact Stacey Kenison at (510) 578-4409.
